Showing your help center inside your app
Put Help inside your own product, and choose whether only your app’s signed-in users can open it.
Embedded lets your Help Center appear inside another website or app you own — as a frame, or as your own Help screens that load articles and tickets from Desk. Your customers get help without leaving your product.
Turn it on
- Open Settings → Embedded and check Enable Embedded Help Center.
- Under Allowed origins, add the web address of each app that may show your Help, one per line (for example
https://app.example.com). Help will not load anywhere else. - Choose who can open it (below), then select Save Embedded settings.
Choose who can open it
- Unrestricted — anyone using your app can read Help. Visitors who send a request type their name and email.
- App Authenticated — only people signed in to your app can open Help. They never see a Desk password or a separate Desk login, and each person sees only their own requests.
How Desk recognizes your signed-in users
With App Authenticated, pick how Desk confirms who someone is:
- Your app’s sign-in provider (recommended) — choose Firebase Authentication and enter your Firebase project ID, or choose Other (OpenID Connect) for providers such as Auth0, Clerk, Okta, or Supabase and enter the issuer URL and audience. There is nothing to generate, copy, or keep secret.
- Signed token from your server (advanced) — for apps without a standard sign-in provider. Desk creates a signing secret that is shown once; your developers store it on your server only.
Who gets in
Desk does not keep a separate list of approved emails. Anyone your app’s sign-in provider recognizes as signed in can open your embedded Help, and their requests are tied to their account in your app.
If your app is invite-only, make sure public sign-up is turned off in your sign-in provider, so the only accounts that exist are the ones you create. Then only people you have invited can reach your Help.
Good to know
- Embedded is separate from Help center access. You can keep your standalone help site private (or locked) and still show Help inside your app.
- With App Authenticated, the Feature requests board stays in your app (via the embed API). It is not opened on the public Help site.
- Replies your team sends appear in the person’s request inside your app and are emailed to them.
- Your developers can find the technical guide at desk.orstrax.io/developers/embed.
