Scanning packing slip barcodes
Scan a packing-slip or shipping-label barcode in Orderflow to find that order in the list on your phone.
Shopify packing slips do not include an order barcode on their own. If you add one, Orderflow can scan it from your phone and pull that order up in the list — the same as typing the number in search.
Scan in Orderflow
On Orders, tap the barcode icon next to search. Allow the camera if the phone asks. A live viewfinder opens — line up the barcode in the wide rectangle. Orderflow reads 1D and 2D codes (Code 39, Code 128, QR, Data Matrix, PDF417, and similar) automatically and shows the matching card. You do not take a photo.
You can scan:
- An order barcode on a packing slip
- A tracking barcode on a shipping label, if Shopify already stored that tracking number on the fulfilled order
Tap the card when you need details, proof, or Update Order.
The same control works in a mobile browser and in the Orderflow app on your home screen. If the camera is blocked, type the order number instead.
The order has to already exist in Orderflow. A scan cannot find a Shopify order that was never imported.
Add a barcode to Shopify packing slips
This is a Shopify packing-slip edit, not an Orderflow print feature. Orderflow does not print packing slips.
- In Shopify, open Settings → Shipping and delivery.
- Edit the Packing slip template.
- Upload a Code 39 barcode font as CSS under Content → Files. Shopify packing slips only load CSS from your own Files. A font hosted somewhere else will not render.
- Link that CSS at the top of the template.
- Print the order name without
#, wrapped in asterisks, in the barcode font:
<p style="font-family: 'Libre Barcode 39 Text'; font-size: 72px;">*{{ order.name | remove: "#" }}*</p>
The asterisks are the start and stop marks Code 39 needs. # is not a Code 39 character, which is why it is removed. Libre Barcode 39 Text is a common free font for this.
order.name is the name staff already recognize, including any prefix from Settings → General. order.order_number is only the numeric part, such as 1004.
Keep the barcode large, with space around it. Use Preview template, print one slip, and scan it in Orderflow before you pack a day’s orders this way.
Shopify’s own help covers customizing packing slips and the packing slip variables.
