Categories and rules
Name expense categories and optional rules in Settings, then confirm them in Review.
Categories are how you group spending. They live on Settings, not as a hidden default you cannot change.
Edit categories
Open Settings. The categories panel is where you add or rename categories your reports and Review chips use.
Rules
Settings also has category rules. A rule can suggest a category the next time a similar charge appears. You still confirm (or change) that suggestion in Review.
Do not expect rules to silently recategorize your whole history. Fern keeps you in the loop.
